Walt Disney World and other Orlando based theme parks have now beefed up their security arrangements prior to the holiday season.
Security throughout the United States has become a major concern following recent deadly attacks in Paris and San Bernardino, and just last week a man attempted to bring a gun into Magic Kingdom before Disney Security were able to apprehend him. Adding to the concern is a bulletin recently issued by the federal Department of Homeland Security that states “we are especially concerned that terrorist-inspired individuals and homegrown violent extremists might be encouraged or inspired to target public events or places.” It went onto warn people to expect more police and more stringent security at large gathering places.
As a result, metal detectors have now moved in to all theme park entrances and Disney has gone a stage further by introducing a new policy expressly prohibiting toy guns and adult costumes.
Third party security firm, CSC are now operating the metal detectors and hand held wands and will screen guests on a random basis.
It’s a sad state of affairs to see these security measures being brought in but they are understandable. Hopefully the new measures will only cause minor delays in getting into the parks and if they can prevent even one incident then they will prove their worth.
