North America’s tallest drop tower is nearly complete at Busch Gardens so we decided to take a more detailed look at the latest attraction to come to the Tampa area.
The ride reaches a height of 335 feet (102m) and is the first drop tower to feature 90 degree tilting seats …and that means riders get to look straight down! Riders will experience approximately five seconds of free fall reaching a speed of approximately 60 mph (97 km/h).
The ride was manufactured by a company called Intamin Worldwide in Wollerau, Switzerland and was shipped from Spain to Tampa in September 2013. The erection of the structure was then handled by he Adena Corporation and construction has continued at a frantic pace since arriving in Florida with the first tower piece being erected on 18th November. That was quickly followed on 2nd December by the second piece and two more pieces were installed by 6th December. The fifth section was placed by December 21 and the sixth was erected by New Years Day. The seventh and eighth tower pieces were installed by 3rd January and 5th January, 2014, respectively, reaching a height of approximately 300 feet (91 m). The gondola for the ride was spotted at the park on January 12 and the counterweight was installed on January 22. Falcon’s Fury was then topped off during the weekend of February 1 so that work on the electrical components of the ride could then commence.
Here’s some video… enjoy!
