Rory McIlroy shot a 6-under 66 after birdieing three of his final four holes to take the tournament lead at -8 before fellow Brit, Matthew Fitzpatrick (pictured below), went one shot better.
The Northern Irishman started the round tied for 32nd at two-under but finished the third round with seven birdies and only one bogey.
Fitzpatrick, meanwhile, hit 12 of 18 greens in regulation during his third round and finished the round bogey free. After the round 24 year old Fitzpatrick said: “We just played really smart. I’ve been driving it really solid all week. Did the same again today. Just hit a lot of greens – or tried to anyway – you just have to play smart and stick to your targets out there. It is very fiery. The greens are really firm and it’s getting tougher.”
Kevin Kisner, Matt Wallace, and Aaron Baddeley are tied for 3rd at 7 under.
