A big weekend started in the worst way possible for Orlando SeaWolves as they were given the run around by Milwaukee Wave in a 6-2 defeat.
Stung by a 7-4 defeat the last time the two teams met in Orlando, the Wave started the game in determined fashion. Ian Bennett and Drew Ruggles gave the visitors a 2-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and although Gordy Gurson (pictured below) got Orlando back into the game from a set piece early in the second, Milwaukee smashed two goals in a minute to give them a 4-1 half time lead.
“We certainly put ourselves in bad situations and anytime you do that against a team like Milwaukee and you go down and try and chase the game, it’s not the place you want to be in any game, but especially against a team like Milwaukee,” Head Coach Tom Traxler said after the game
Ian Bennet then scored his second in the third quarter and Marcelo Leite added another in the fourth to put Milwaukee up 6-1. Gurson pulled one back from a penalty kick with just two minutes left, but the damage had been done and Orlando fell to the visiting Wave 6-2.
The SeaWolves will play again tomorrow in the Silver Spurs Arena against the Florida Tropics. The game is set for a 7:05 kickoff.
