53,629 excited Mexican and Costa Rica fans saw a thrilling game between their two nations finish 2-2 at the Orlando Citrus Bowl this evening.
Deportivo Saprissa forward David Ramirez (pictured below) scored the first goal for Costa Rica in the 4th minute before Miguel Layun put through his own net nine minutes before halftime to give the men in white a 2-0 half time lead.
Mexico came out more determined in the second half and within 10 minutes of the restart they were level. First Giovani dos Santos scored from an acute angle and then Javier Hernandez (pictured below) headed home a quickfire second.
Mexico’s Miguel Layun also had the ball in the net again in the 84th minute but he was denied the winner for an offside offence.
Mexico faces Honduras next in a friendly on Wednesday, while Costa Rica – on a five-game winless run of its own – will turn its attentions to the Gold Cup as the team prepares to play Jamaica on July 8 turned its attention towards July’s CONCACAF Gold Cup.
