Walt Disney World has confirmed that another of its popular attractions is set to close on 12th July 2015. That day will be the last day for the Magic of Disney Animation at Disney’s Hollywood Studios as the company makes room for a new experience that the company is withholding details on at present.
The area is one of the original attractions from when the park opened under the name Disney-MGM Studios in 1989. One of its features was the ability for guests to spy on actual Disney animators at work. The attraction now includes a short film about how Disney characters are made as well as Animation Station, where character-driven art lessons are given.
The closure is the latest in a series of recent departures at Hollywood Studios as both the Studios Backlot Tour and American Idol Experience have been closed. Earlier this year, Disney also removed the large sorcerer’s hat that had become the icon of the park.
In March, Disney CEO Bob Iger told shareholders that the park would undergo another name change, replacing the Hollywood Studios name that has been in place since 2008. The new moniker has not been announced.
One can only assume that this is an effort by Disney to move more towards Star Wars attractions as the company has said that was a goal for the near future.
