Maeve Gilchrist (pictured above) and Nic Gareiss (pictured below) begin the second season of the Orlando Philharmonic’s Women in Song Series at The Plaza Live on Wednesday, October 11 at 8 p.m. The Plaza Live is located at 425 North Bumby Avenue, Orlando, Florida, 32803.
Described by one critic as a “phenomenal harp player who can make her instrument sing with unparalleled purity,” Maeve Gilchrist has taken the Celtic harp to new levels of performance.
She maintains a widely-acclaimed duo project with Nic Gareiss, a Michigan-born percussive dancer. Sharing a deep respect for traditional music and culture while drawing on contemporary elements of music, dance, rhythm and improvisation, Maeve and Nic have emerged from the vibrant new acoustic scene as innovators in their fields.
“We are excited to perform in this specially crafted program and invite the audience to join us as we move through an expansive world of different textures and rhythms,” said Gilchrist. “Drawing on the timeless melodies and songs of Ireland and Scotland as well as elements of Appalachian Music and original compositions, we weave contemporary rhythms and subtle electronic augmentation with timeless traditional music.”
Described as Avante-trad, both artists are known for stretching the limits of their instrument and challenging the audience’s perception of their craft.
Single tickets are $23 in advance and $27 at the door and can be purchased online at orlandophil.org, by calling 407.770.0071, or in person at the Box Office, located at The Plaza Live (425 N. Bumby Avenue, Orlando). The Box Office is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Ticket prices subject to change.)
