Orlando City SC has acquired goalkeeper Joe Bendik from Toronto FC in exchange for a conditional fourth round selection in the 2017 Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft. Per club and league policy, additional terms were not disclosed.
“Joe is a proven goalkeeper who has significant amount of experience within the league,” said head coach Adrian Heath. “We’re looking forward to working with him as he’s a strong competitor who comes highly recommended.”
Bendik joins the Lions after spending the previous three seasons in goal for Toronto FC. The acquisition of the 26-year-old Huntington, NY, native provides additional experience within the Lions’ squad, as Bendik has appeared in over 70 MLS games since joining the league in 2012.
After a standout four-year career at Clemson University, where he finished among the school’s career leaders in a number of statistical categories, Bendik made his professional debut in 2011 with Norwegian club Sogndal where he helped the Club gain promotion to the nation’s top flight. Following a two-year stint in Norway, he returned stateside in 2012 to sign with the Portland Timbers for one season.
