Legoland Florida opens in just 7 days and during the next week we’ll be taking a closer look at some of the things you’ll be able to enjoy at Central Florida’s newest theme park when it opens to the public…
Legoland Florida sits on the site of the former Cypress Gardens, that closed on 23rd September 2009, and since then an awful lot of work has been done to turn the site into a haven for youngsters and their families to visit. One of the most popular features of the old theme park was the Island in the Sky attraction and that’s the subject of today’s blog post.
The rotating Island in the Sky ride was added in 1983 to the old Cypress Gardens park. It has a capacity of 75 riders and it takes them to a height of approximately 150 feet in the air as it ascends to give a great 360 degree view of the area…. and the views are superb…
The Island in the Sky is supported by a giant blue arm and this provides the foundation as the platform completely rotates for a view of the park, gardens, ski-show stadium, Lake Eloise, parking lots and parts of Winter Haven. If you look closely, you’ll even see the famous Bok Tower in the distance.
The ride lasts about five minutes and you spin around a couple times…. it’s a great way to get a view of the Legoland Florida theme park and to see the layout so you can plan where you want to go next.
