The Ryder Cup began at Gleneagles, Scotland this morning and Florida was well represented at the ever popular event.
Europe’s Justin Rose, Graeme McDowell, Henrik Stenson and Ian Poulter all live within a few hundred yards of each other in the gated enclave of Lake Nona in Orlando. The USA, meanwhile, has two Florida based players with Bubba Watson living in Tiger Woods old abode at Isleworth and Ryder Cup veteran Jim Furyk living in Ponte Vedra Beach.
The USA had a good morning session on day one but a tough afternoon where they only picked up a half point left them trailing the Ryder Cup 5-3 to the Europeans by the end of the first day.
The competition draws to a close on Sunday and the United States needs 14.5 points to win while Europe will retain the trophy if they get to 14 points.
