Florida’s tourism industry came together last night in Boca Raton as they attended the 2014 Florida Governor’s Conference on Tourism.
Hot on the heels of recent news that nearly 24 million visitors came to Florida between April and June, the industry came together to celebrate a great year so far. The state’s goal for 2014 is to reach 100 million visitors this year after totaling some 93.7 million visiting Florida in 2013.
Andrew Hertz, (pictured above) Chair of Visit Florida Board of Directors, took the stage initially to remind those in attendance of the very important role that tourism plays in Florida. Hertz reminded the audience that the Sunshine State is the backbone of the state’s economy, creating and sustaining nearly 1.1 million jobs and generating approximately 25% of the state’s sales tax revenue.
State of Florida Governor Rick Scott, (pictured above) was also in attendance and he emphasized the conference theme of 100 Million & Beyond: Getting Your Share. He also thanked everyone in attendance for the success so far generated in establishing Florida as the No. 1 travel destination in the world.
Opening the evening was a surprise appearance by Vanilla Ice (pictured above) who wowed the crowd as he rapped along to the sounds of the Palm Beach Symphony while dancers from the Palm Beach ballet performed.
