The Florida Cup, a two-city “clubs for nations” tournament created by 2SV Sports, brings together two-time FIFA Club World Champion Corinthians (Brazil), UEFA Champions League club Bayer 04 Leverkusen (Germany), four-time Brazilian champion Fluminense and three-time German champion 1.FC Köln at ESPN WIde World of Sports at Walt Disney World tomorrow night. The clubs playing in the Florida Cup are anticipated to generate strong interest with fans given the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil and the German National Team’s triumph in Rio de Janeiro last July.
The teams then move onto Jacksonville where they will play at EverBank Field on January 17th.
All matches will air live on ESPN International networks in Spanish-speaking Latin America, the Caribbean, Australia and New Zealand; on ESPN networks in the United States, including ESPN3 and ESPN Deportes; and in Canada online on TSN Go. Top Brazilian and German properties currently airing on ESPN networks in Spanish-speaking Latin America include Germany’s Bundesliga and Brazil’s the Brasileirão, the Paulista State Championship and the Carioca State Championship.
Every Florida Cup match win delivers three points, with one point for a tie in regulation and one additional point for a penalty shootout victory. At the end of the tournament, a champion will be crowned and the points will also be aggregated for each nation to determine a national victor as well. The Brazilian and German teams arrived at Disney earlier this month to train for the event.
