Downtown Disney officially becomes Disney Springs today!
Today’s the day!
Downtown Disney officially becomes Disney Springs today. All the signage around the Walt Disney World property has been changed over the last month and today the Downtown Disney name disappears from the scene to make way for Disney Springs.
The new Disney Springs will eventually double the number of shops and restaurants once the build out is complete sometime in 2016.
Disney executives, cast members and Disney Springs’ newest tenants will take part in renaming the area at the brand new, Indiana Jones-themed Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar later today. The milestone occasion will celebrate the transformation into the reimagined, redesigned and totally jacked-up entertainment district that will effectively double the number of shops and restaurants currently found at Downtown Disney.
Generating the most buzz right now is the Landing, which takes over the area formerly known as Pleasure Island. It offers some unique dining such as the newly opened “The Boathouse” that we covered
here about a month ago.
Last week Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar opened to the public and today, Morimoto Asia, the first pan-Asia restaurant will open. Coming later this year will be a steakhouse called STK while sometime in 2016, The Edison, a restaurant dedicated to a resurgence of old-world style, sophistication and romance in a 1920s-period electric style will open.
In addition to the new shopping and restaurants, Disney Springs is also getting two parking garages. The Orange garage, near the West Side, is now open while another one to the east is currently being built.
