This week I spent an enjoyable hour at “Diana – The People’s Princess” new exhibit at Downtown Disney. The People’s Princess Charitable Foundation brought the exhibit to Orlando in early July and it will be here until 30 November 2009.
The exhibit showcases the life and story of Princess Diana and includes a sampling of royal dresses that Diana chose to auction for charity and hundreds of authentic artifacts relating to her life.
The exhibit is located in the recently vacated Virgin Megastore space, next to Disney Quest and it is really a unique experience. You will learn more about Diana’s childhood and her ancestry and you’ll also be able to go back in time and see some of the artifacts from the magical royal wedding to Prince Charles in 1977.
There is also a mural of Kensington Palace, the royal residence where Diana lived from the moment she became Princess of Wales until her untimely death. You’ll be able to discover the historical significance of her role as the Princess of Wales and the impact she had through that role on the fashion industry and charitable landscape.
Some of the other things you’ll see are a Royal Doulton figurine of Diana in her wedding dress … made in 1981 at the time of the royal wedding, the doll is an exact replica of the famous wedding dress. You’ll also see the Wedding breakfast booklet which contains guest names and two tickets to observe the bride and bridegroom before and following the wedding ceremony in the quadrangle at Buckingham Palace and Clarence House. There’s also the Black Velvet “V” neck which was designed by Bruce Oldfield and worn by Diana for her official royal portrait in 1985.
Tickets are available for the exhibit at it’s Downtown Disney location and are priced at $14.50 for adults and $5 for children aged 3 to 9. The exhibit is open from 11.00am until 11.00pm on a daily basis but you’ll need to be quick as the exhibit will move on after 30 November 2009.
