The newest attraction in Orlando held its grand opening celebration last night as more than 1,000 guests enjoyed taking a look at Andretti Indoor Karting & Games. The 150,000 square foot building is the newest premier entertainment and event destination featuring heart-pounding attractions, delicious cuisine and unique event spaces under one roof.
The Andretti family were joined by Orlando and Orange County elected officials, industry leaders and VIPs as Mayor Theresa Jacobs proclaimed October 17, 2017 as Andretti Day in honor of the Andretti family and the grand opening of Andretti Indoor Karting & Games as a significant milestone for the Orlando tourism industry.
The fun started with a rolling parade along International Drive and Universal Boulevard as race car legend Mario Andretti got behind the wheel along with Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs in the passenger seat of a custom Indy Car. A ribbon cutting ceremony and speeches were then followed by an evening of fun as guests enjoyed the multi level indoor karting, the twelve lanes of boutique style bowling, 102+ arcade games, two level laser tag, an extreme ropes course, a 7D HD dark ride motion theater as well as the full service restaurant and bar.
On hand were Mario, his sons Michael and Jeff, grandson Marco, nephews John and Adam, and great-nephew Jarrett. “This is the center of entertainment. Are you kidding? This is phenomenal. … We want to be a good neighbor and an asset to the community,” said Mario (pictured below). “I’m pinching myself. … It’s amazing. It’s been under construction for a while, but the amount of buzz that I get while traveling … maybe an airline captain will say ‘Is that your place down there?’ It’s amazing, the visibility. Would we want to be anywhere else rather than here? No.”
The Orlando location is the first in the State of Florida for Andretti Indoor Karting & Games. The company was established in 2001 and is headquartered in Georgia with two successful locations in Roswell and Marietta. The company also owns and operates the outdoor Andretti Thrill Park in Melbourne, Florida.
The main attraction, naturally, are the electric SODI RTX superkarts as well as the professionally designed multi-level, banked turn, modular track that was created exclusively for the Orlando location by 360 Karting with the most elevation changes and banked turns in the world. A fantastic feature is that the two adult tracks can be merged to give more than 2,100 feet of track and that makes it the largest indoor karting track in the United States.
From a safety standpoint the super-durable track barriers are designed to function in unison with the wraparound system of the superkarts. The karts slide freely along the barriers, reducing damage and eliminating the risk of rollover. Each driver must first watch a briefing video detailing proper use of safety equipment, basic kart operation and important rules and safety procedures, including flag meanings before being allowed to drive.
SMS-Timing kart race management is activated for junior and adult races providing high-quality lap times for each driver. Transponders are located on the karts and along the tracks which enables live timing and positions to be sent to the scoreboards and TV screens during each race.
If you’re feeling hungry after all that action, the Andretti Grill is a scratch-kitchen, full-service restaurant and bar featuring favorites such as Big Green Egg® slow-smoked ribs and wood-fired brick oven pizzas. Guests can catch all the action of their favorite games on more than 100 HD TVs and projection screens while enjoying refreshing libations at the Main Bar or the unique Sky Bar, with panoramic views of the track and LED illuminated domed roof.
The venue also has more than 10,000 square feet of flexible event space. Full in-house catering, comprehensive audio / video facilities as well as free WIFI make Andretti Indoor Karting & Games the perfect venue for any group. From birthday parties and company team-building activities to company celebrations and elegant affairs it is the perfect place to show friends, family, and co-workers a good time.
