Disney’s Aladdin opened on Thursday evening in front of an expectant audience and while it was somewhat slow to get going, it enthralled and enraptured fans who were in the mood for some January fun.
Jonah Ho’okano plays Aladdin and gives a lovable performance of the street urchin who meets Princess Jasmine (Kaenaonalani Kekoa), the beautiful daughter of the sultan of Agrabah (Jerald Vincent). Perhaps the performance of the evening is from returning Orlando native, Michael James Scott, who played the Genie, who has a charm and charisma all of his own.
The show plays true to Disney’s animated movie with a few little delights thrown in for good measure. Epic scenery, glittery costumes and of course, a magical flying carpet all make for an extravagant eyeful and the two hour fifteen minute show plus intermission soon flies by.
