Jordan Spieth was the overnight leader with a six under score of 66 yesterday at the Hero World Golf Challenge at Isleworth, Windermere.
Spieth, fresh from his victory at the Australian Open last week, played some great golf and needed a 20-foot par putt at 18 to stay one in front of fellow Americans Rickie Fowler, Steve Stricker and Zach Johnson and Sweden’s Henrik Stenson. After the round he remarked: “It was a good Thursday. Really good start. Nice to put myself in position under par, get a feel for how the golf course is playing this week.”
Tiger Woods, meanwhile, was making his return to the professional game after four months off recuperating from a back injury and he had a poor start as he shot a five over 77. The former world No 1 ended the day with four bogeys, one birdie and a double bogey at Isleworth, a 7,354-yard layout.
Woods leads the day off today with an opening tee time at 11.20am alongside playing partner Patrick Reed.
