President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama made a short trip to Orlando today where they spoke to roughly 4,000 injured veterans attending the Disabled American Veterans.
The President praised the “fighting spirit of wounded warriors” and at the same time announced a $100 million grant to treat brain injuries and mental health conditions, particularly post-traumatic stress disorder. He also pledged to cut backlogs that have made accessing veterans benefits for disability claims an abysmally slow and stress-inducing process.
Obama also renewed his commitment to the nation’s military veterans, laying out a five-point agenda aimed at ensuring funds, jobs, medical care and the respect he said they deserved.
The President arrived in Orlando at 11.15am and by 1.10pm he was gone.
