Ted Potter Jr. Wins Par 3 Contest at Masters

Ted Potter Jr., won the Par 3 Contest ahead of the Masters by rolling in a 12-foot birdie putt on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff to defeat Matt Kuchar.

There was a five way tie for first place as Potter, Kuchar, Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els and Nick Watney all tied for first place at 4-under-par 23. Els and Watney elected not to return for the playoff that began at the 8th hole. Kuchar almost won it with a hole in one but then it trickled to  finishfinishing three feet away from the hole. Potter then rolled in a 40-foot birdie putt from the edge of the green, while Kuchar tapped in to extend the playoff as Mickelson was eliminated after making par.

At the 9th, Kuchar putted first and missed a 15-foot birdie chance while Potter then stepped up and made a birdie to win his first Par-3 Contest title. Potter will now try to become the first player ever to win the Masters Tournament and Par-3 Tournament in the same year.
