The LPGA Tour’s season opening event, the second annual Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions, will be played at Tranquilo Golf Course at Four Seasons Golf and Sports Club in Orlando from 16th to 19th January 2020. The event will feature LPGA winners from the previous two seasons competing alongside a host of celebrity golfers such as John Smoltz (MBL Hall of Fame), Marcus Allen (Super Bowl XVII MVP), country music star Lee Brice and Mardy Fish (US Olympian.)
The event is one of the most unique events on the LPGA Tour, bringing together some of the world’s top professional women golfers to play alongside a roster of world-class sports and entertainment celebrities.
As an official LPGA event, the tournament features only LPGA winners competing for $1.2 million in official prize money. While the LPGA pros play 72 holes of stroke play with no cut, they’re joined on the course by up to 50 sports and entertainment celebrities competing for their own $500,000 purse using a modified Stableford format. A group of amateur golfers, who qualify during the event’s pro-am, also play alongside the stars during official tournament rounds.
All four days of play are nationally televised, with Thursday and Friday on Golf Channel, and Saturday and Sunday on NBC. But nothing beats catching the competition live at Tranquilo Golf Course at Four Seasons Golf and Sports Club Orlando. A range of ticket options are available for fans to purchase, and interested sponsors have the opportunity to tailor packages based on business needs. With private evening concerts, a world-class field of players, and unforgettable action, you don’t want to miss this one-of-a-kind event.
Additionally, Diamond Resorts have announced a three-night line-up of private concerts as some of the nation’s most beloved performers including Counting Crows, Boyz II Men, Sister Hazel, Colt Ford, Easton Corbin and Jake Owen will perform as part of the tournament festivities in nightly private concerts during the week.
The festivities will start on January 14 with a concert featuring chart-topping country star Colt Ford opening for the iconic group Boyz II Men. On January 16, another concert event will take place with two of the most popular bands from the 1990s, Counting Crows and Sister Hazel, taking the stage. The Tournament of Champions entertainment line-up will conclude with a final concert on January 18 featuring Easton Corbin and country star Jake Owen, who was nominated for 2019 Single of the Year at the ACM Awards for “Down to the Honkytonk.”
“The Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions is the ‘party on tour’ because nowhere else can you see your favorite bands perform at night after watching celebrities compete alongside top female golfers during the day,” said Mike Flaskey (pictured above), CEO of Diamond Resorts and founder of the tournament. “This year’s tournament is bigger than ever and will provide a jam-packed week of unforgettable entertainment.”
To date, 35 LPGA professionals have qualified to play including Brittany Lincicome, Brooke Henderson, Nelly Korda, Lexi Thompson, Michelle Wie, Shanshan Feng, Inbee Park and Sung Hyun Park. Additional LPGA champions and celebrity commitments will be announced closer to the tournament date.
Diamond Resorts is also offering all active duty, reserve and retired military members, police, fire and EMS first responders free tickets to the upcoming tournament, an event that since 2014, has raised more than $3.5 million for charity.
“We’re honored to continue our tradition of offering complimentary tickets to the Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions to the brave men and women who serve our country and communities,” said Flaskey. “This is our small way of saying ‘Thank You’ and we hope military members and first responders join us at the tournament in January for an unforgettable week of golf and entertainment.”
